SCHMOOZE OR LOSE

In today's professional world networking is a required skill for building one's career. Yet the art of networking is one which many have difficulty mastering. This CareerBuilder.com article offers the ins and outs of developing an effective networking strategy.

The article profiles how to initiate and manage the relationship with networking contacts, as well as other helpful tips. In addition, although the "where" of networking is "any time", there are guidelines for "when" it is appropriate to establish contacts. For professionals wanting to take defining their career goals, networking style, and interview preparation even further, hiring a career coach or counselor is also an option.

NETWORKING YOUR WAY TO A NEW JOB

NETWORKING IN A NEW CITY

Nowhere are networking skills more essential than when moving to a new city. This WetFeet.com article is a look at how to rebuild your professional network in a new area.

Start out by pursuing ties with any organizations to which you're already connected, such as professional associations or religious organizations. If you did not have such affiliations in your previous location, investigate if there are chapters in your new area. Other organizations to consider include your local Chamber of Commerce and special interest groups.

There are various ways to locate these organizations including online searches, volunteering at events where you will meet a wide variety of people, and asking friends and colleagues about people they might know in your city.
