HOW TO FIND YOUR CAREER BEST

Imagine being energized and engaged by your job. You can't wait for each day to start, staying late isn't a burden, and you feel you're making a difference and being recognized for your efforts. In this CareerJournal.com article this scenario is described as having a "career best".

The first step to finding your career best is to analyze what factors were present when you last felt a job offered you such experiences.

One model that can be used to identify these factors is T.O.P. "T" stands for talents - your innate abilities and inborn strengths. "O" stands for organizational needs - being able to add value to your employer, as well as feeling you're making a contribution to the organization. "P" is for passions, meaning the work must fascinate, stimulate, captivate, enthrall, and excite you. When all three of the T.O.P. elements are present in a job, a career best is likely to occur.

  • Avoiding self-promotion.
