STRESS BUSTERS

In today's modern workplace, job-related stress comes with the territory. It can actually be beneficial in spurring one to action and in reaching new heights of performance. However, it's imperative to have ways to deal with these pressures and keep them from becoming overwhelming. This monster.com article offers some easy and effective techniques to keep everyday stress manageable.

BITING OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW

One of the main sources of workplace stress is allowing your "to-do" list to become overwhelming. An inability to say no, taking on more than you can accomplish, poor organizational and delegation skills, and ineffective time management are some of the most frequent causes of feeling swamped by your project list. However, adopting the simple preventative measures and solutions in this careerbuilder.com article can help keep your workload under control.

ARE YOU ON THE VERGE OF BURNING OUT AT WORK?

Although we seldom think it can happen to us, burnout can affect anyone in any profession. Burnout typically has three components: exhaustion, alienation and low personal accomplishment. Most victims don't recognize the symptoms and attempt to alter the circumstances they feel are responsible. However, the symptoms themselves actually hold them back from improving, causing their frustration to mount. Similar to the three components of burnout, this careerjournal.com article also outlines three progressively worse levels to the syndrome; first, second and third degree "burn". Recognizing the severity of the burnout is integral in regaining control over one's life and becoming productive again.
