Our client initiated a challenge to Mandrake and tasked us to find a director-level candidate with extensive engineering and business experience to join the senior management team of a unique tourist attraction. Of strategic importance to the company, this senior role would oversee the operation of various departments, with a team of managers as direct reports.

Since our client operates a unique category of business in Toronto, the search criteria required rigour and access to niche networks of exceptional performers. The ideal candidate would possess strong engineering and technical skills, bring extensive business management experience, and collaborate strategically with managers. The challenging tasks of managing critical systems and operations, while leading departmental changes through training and development initiatives, would also fall within their responsibilities.

Initiating an extensive search looking at two distinct segments of candidates, Mandrake sourced, vetted, and presented key individuals who had previously managed complex facilities including arts and entertainment properties, retail outfits, commercial centres, and health care institutions. Since many organizations outsource facilities management, many business consultants were also considered for the role.

A talented candidate working in the health care industry – possessing 15 years of experience in engineering and facilities management, as well as exemplary management and technical skills – was selected. Having handled large and complex capital projects from end to end from an engineering and business perspective, this candidate was able to raise the standards of the facility as a world-class organization.
