History
Mandrake’s story began in 1970 when a visionary and ambitious recruiter, Harold Perry, opened the first Mandrake office at Bloor and Bay Streets in Toronto. Throughout the 70s and 80s, Mandrake quickly became one of the most prominent recruitment firms in the country, hiring CEOs for Nestle, Pillsbury, and Max Factor.
By the mid-80s, Mandrake completed its 1000th search, which was no small feat for a 10-year-old company. In 1991, Mandrake launched the first annual Skate for Kids Charity Event, which has raised more than $1,000,000 for local children’s charities.
Mandrake achieved significant success in the 90s, garnering win after win in executive search. At the start of the new millennium, Mandrake outgrew its boutique office at 15 Bedford Road and moved to St. Clair Avenue West, where its newest partner, Bill Holland, launched a suite of new brands, including wwwork! and NEXCareer.
wwwork! served employers searching for better-quality talent in management roles, while NEXCareer helped employees in transition. Career transition quickly became one of the hottest topics in business in Canada and the USA.
Over the last ten years, Mandrake has succeeded, completing its 15,000th search in Canada while continuing its growth in the US healthcare marketplace. In 2018, we opened Mandrake Place, a spectacular new office building in the heart of Toronto’s prestigious Yorkville community. In 2020, Mandrake celebrated its 50th anniversary.
